In addition to the area's spectacular beauty, Reno-Tahoe offers an extraordinary mix of history and culture, world-class ski and golf resorts, 24-hour gaming and entertainment, a mild climate with four distinct seasons and community spirit as strong as ever. It's no wonder more than 300,000 people make Reno-Tahoe their home and why 5.1 million people visit every year. A chain of high-peaked mountains surround the region. The geography ranges from high desert hills to valleys covered with deciduous and evergreen trees. A river flows casually through the heart of the city among an eclectic mix of stately manors, quaint churches, sleek high rises, city parks and casinos. Shopping malls and new residential developments canvas the city limits and are nestled against mountains that offer endless outdoor recreation, and cradle the magnificent Lake Tahoe.
You'll find that the arts are a terrific traveling companion as you explore Reno-Sparks/Lake Tahoe. Take a stroll along the Truckee River and rediscover Reno's Downtown, home to the Truckee River Arts District, where you can take in a movie at the Riverside Theater, listen to a concert in Wingfield Park, enjoy a theatre performance or simply relax along the Riverwalk where street venders sell hot dogs along the sidewalks and artists sit on stools and sketch the surroundings.
The Siena is located next to the National Auto Museum and Pioneer Center for the Performing Arts, and near the Nevada Museum of Art. The Art District further boasts numerous art galleries, a vintage clothing shop and other exciting shops where you'll find all kinds of treasures. After shopping, refresh yourself with a latte or a chai from the Contrada Café, now serving Starbucks. Kick back and relax by spending the rest of your time on our riverfront patio watching Canadian geese, cormorants and other waterfowl that call the urban Truckee River home.
July is ArtTown month in Reno. Every evening, dance and drama performances and art displays are featured, among other events. Movies are shown under the trees in Wingfield Park.
Hot August Nights gives you the chance to relive those wonderful days of drive-in movies, cruising Main Street, boppin' at the Malt Shop, or just hanging out in your cool car with your best guy or best gal listening to some great music on the radio. Come see over 5,000 classic cars as they take over the city of Reno!
The Great Reno Balloon Race allows you to see the many colors and shapes as they float gracefully over Reno in the crisp Fall air. This September event features three days of races, including Balloon Blackjack, Hare and Hound races, as well as Glow Shows.
The National Championship Air Races and Air Show in September remains the only place in the World where you can see real air racing by multiple classes of aircraft up close and personal.
Street Vibrations lets you experience the rumble of hundreds of motorcycles and the gleam of their chrome. This weekend event in September is a celebration of music, metal, and motorcycles. It's the hottest event on two wheels!
